Well..I got to use my extended warranty today...$50.00 deductible.

Anyways..

I have had the SES (Service Engine Soon) light come on and off again three times in the last three months..I thought it was due to maybe a bad fitting gas cap..Cause for some reason it happened the first two times right after I had filled up with gas and went away when I refitted the gas cap...But this last time (today) it came on and I had not been to the gas station for a week...Worth noting; I didn't notice any problems with the way the engine ran.

Long story short..I was nearby my dealer, so I drove in..They got me in and told me that this is a known problem and there is a service bullitin out on this issue...They had to replace a device on the engine that in some cases comes from the factory screwed up, but don't give any problems untill there is about 30,000 to 40,000 miles on the engine..I have 38,500.

So the device is around $100.00 + $95.00 diagnostics, plus labor to replace..

It is called an; "Exhaust Cam actuator Valve"

and is located just above the P/S pump on the right side (passenger) of the engine near the top front.

When you pool together all the combined energy it takes to drive and build a Toyota Prius, the flagship car of energy fanatics, it takes almost 50 percent more energy than a Hummer

Dennis do you know how we would locate the service bulletin number? I only have 23,000 miles but the lease is up in June and we will be purchasing it at that time. Would rather have this fixed now if possible. Great deal from dealership on extended warranty 0 deductible for $2,195.

Hi Jenn..

The code was "P0014" and that's all I have..I would think the dealer can pull up the bullitin based on this code...

Sorry ..Hope this helps..

Hey Dennis, there is some dust on the wire loom in the upper right hand part of the picture. Just thought I'd point that out so you can sleep badly at night and stress, or run down to the garage with a toothbrush to scrub it clean. Grin
